Is it okay to cleanse your body by fasting from time to time?

It sounds so simple – no choices, no counting calories, no cooking. Just say ‘no’ to food and start fasting for quick weight loss and other health benefits.
Does Fasting Detoxify the Body?
“There is no scientific proof it will detox the body. Fasting to purify the body has no natural premise because the body is genuinely acceptable at that with no one else,” says Fernstrom. “The liver is a characteristic detox centre; the lungs, the colon, the kidneys, and the skin dispose of toxins.”
Fasting allows the body to most effectively remove these waste products. The body is designed to fast; we do it every night. When you go without eating for more than a day or two, the body enters ketosis. Ketosis occurs when the body runs out of carbohydrates to burn for energy, so it burns fat. And the fat is where the body stores many of the toxins it absorbs from the environment.
Medical Reasons for Fasting: You don’t want the body to be digesting food as it manages slower breathing under anesthesia. Fasting is also required to get accurate readings for certain medical tests. Short-term fasting before tests for cholesterol and blood sugar levels, for example, helps achieve a more accurate baseline count.
